My mother is now in her eighties and has limited hand dexterity from years of arthritis in her fingers. After a fall a few years back which injured her shoulder, she now had limited shoulder mobility too. Despite all this, she really treasures her independence.
A few months ago, I noticed she was struggling with her traditional bra. As an older lady, my mother needs and easy-on comfortable bra she put on herself. That's when I set out to find a front-closure easy-on bra that my mom could put on independently.
My mother is a size 40DD, but like most older women she has all her weight the bottom of her breasts. So she needs a bit of support in a bra but she doesn't like heavily padded push up bras. We wanted something really comfortable for her as a senior woman that wasn't going to put pressure on her neck.
Here are my mother's overall picks for the best front-closure bra she loves an elderly woman.
The Best Bras for Elderly Women (Based on my 88-Year-Old Mother's Review)
- Her Top Pick: LIBERARE Comfort Sculpt Bra - $54: Super easy for her to on! She loves it and it's so comfortable.
- Runner Up: Glamorise Front-Closure Stretch Lace WonderWire Bra - $40 Relatively easy to put on
- Last Place: Leading Lady - The Meryl Cotton Front-Closure Bra -$35
TOP CHOICE: Liberare Comfort Sculpt Bra - $54
I found this brand because a friend of mine had rotator cuff surgery about 9 months ago and her nurse had recommended. My friend love this front-closure bra and said my mother could put it on. My elderly mother loves that this front-closure bra is magnetic and yes, it does hold her DDs! It's extraordinarily easy for her to put on and in fact, we have now bought 2 other bras from this brand.
It's lightly lined but not extra padding. It has great wide shoulder straps that are thick and made of fabric so no digging on her shoulders. The fabric is the best I've seen. This front-closure bra is so soft and so comfortable!
This is a video I saw on their Instagram that I loved!
RUNNER UP: Glamorise Front-Closure Stretch Lace WonderWire Bra - $40

This is definitely a higher support bra as it has underwire (which unfortunately makes it less comfortable for my mother). It's a relatively easy front-closure bra to put on, although if you're shopping for someone with low hand dexterity or functionality, this is definitely more difficult to put on that the the Liberare bra.
My mother loved the shoulder straps on this bra as they are also wide. I find she wants to wear this one on days for a bit more support. Ultimately, if you're shopping for a bra for an elderly mom or friend, I suggest the Liberare bra.
LAST PLACE: Leading Lady - The Meryl Cotton Front-Closure Bra -$35

Unfortunately these front hooks are very difficult to put on and the bra offers no support to make up for it. For mature women, bras with a bit of lift are necessary.
Ultimately, after all my mother's testing, for older women or elderly ladies out there, the Liberare front-closure magnetic bra is the best.
