So I decided to save my fellow mature ladies some effort – and test out some of the highest rated bras for older women myself. Here’s what I found out.

Comfort Bras for Seniors: What Really Matters

Everyone tells you to look for the same things when you’re shopping for a bra – no matter your age. We all want a bra that looks good, comes in our size, and matches our wardrobe.

But I’m here to tell you, based on my experience, and what I learned from my older clients – certain things really do make a difference:

·         The Clasp: If like me, you’re struggling with arthritis, or occasional issues of “frozen shoulder”, the last thing you need is a fiddly back-closing clasp. Trust me, a front-opening bra for seniors will change your life – and save you from a world of pain.

·         Wire-Free Design: Wires might be great for lift when you’re younger, but when you get older, they seem to constantly dig into your skin. I’d recommend avoiding wires as much as possible – if you’re looking for comfort.

·         Support: Wire-free bras are always going to give you a little less support – but they should still hold the ladies in place, and provide a little confidence boost. Look for firm, wide, back and side bands, and front-adjustable shoulder straps.

·         Material: After I turned 60, I noticed my skin was a lot more sensitive to seams and friction. Buttery smooth, breathable fabrics will give you the comfort you need day and night. Look for a slight lining if you want a little extra coverage.

·         Adjustability: Beyond front-adjustable shoulder straps, it’s always helpful to have an extra back adjuster as you age. Ladies, our weight will fluctuate – and that’s ok. You don’t want to have to buy a new bra every time something changes.

The Best Comfort Bras for Seniors: My Top Picks

After testing about a dozen bras, I found one in particular I think every older woman should have in their wardrobe (my number one pick). But based on my experience as a personal shopper – I know we all have different preferences. Some of us prefer bralettes to standard bras, others need something designed for larger ladies – so here are a few great options.

The Best Comfort Bra for Seniors: Liberare Everyday Easy-On Bra

This is it – the dream bra for mature women: the Liberare Everyday Easy-On bra. When I started my search – everyone was raving about this bra – Vogue, Oprah Daily – you name it.

At first, I wasn’t sure – I’d never tried a “magnetic bra” before, and some of the other front opening bras for seniors on my list didn’t live up to my expectations.

But Liberare aced it. This is the easiest bra I’ve ever worn – the magnetic closure automatically guides the latches into place, so you’re not struggling to hold the sides together. Then everything connects and “locks-in”. It’s not actually the magnet holding you in place – it’s the ultra-secure three-way latches. Trust me, it’s a game-changer.

It wasn’t just the front-closure that sold me on this bra. The lightweight, breathable, and silky-smooth material is a god-send. Plus, even though there are no wires, you still get a decent amount of lift!

I can’t recommend this bra enough if comfort is your priority.

The Best Seamless Bra for Mature Ladies: Liberare Comfort Sculpt

 

After Liberare blew me away with the Everyday Easy-On bra – I just had to try another product. I wanted to stick with the amazing magnetic front-closure, and I needed something that suited a larger bust size – so I picked the Liberare Comfort Sculpt seamless bra.

This bra is just as comfortable as the Everyday Easy-On, thanks to the beautiful seamless knit fabric (no chafing) – and it sculpts and smooths for a more flattering fit.

I really loved the extra-thick shoulder straps too – which really help to make me feel supported. Plus, there are removable cups for a bit of extra coverage (during colder months).

This bra does offer slightly less lift than the Everyday Easy-on, but it’s brilliant for everyday wear.

If you’re looking for something you can pop on in seconds and forget about all day – this is the bra for you.

The Best No-Closure Bra: The Bliss Bralette from Harper Wilde

Since I’ve discovered the benefits of a front-closing bra, I probably wouldn’t recommend a “no-closure” option to most ladies.

The Bliss bralette is reasonably easy to get on (you just pull it over your head) – but if you have joint and shoulder issues like me, taking your bra off after a long day can be a headache.

Still, I did like quite a few things about this bra. It gives you a lot of coverage – comes in a bunch of different colors, and there are no wires to dig into your skin. The durable, microfiber fabric is ultra-soft too – so it’s great for all-around comfort.

I think this is a pretty great bra to sleep in, and wear around the house – if you have the movement in your shoulders to take it on and off. However, I don’t feel too comfortable wearing it outside, based on the lack of lift (and the absence of cups).

The Best Bra for Larger Busts: Liberare Smooth-On T-Shirt Bra

A lot of the women I helped as a personal shopper struggled to find bras that accommodated a larger band and cup size. That’s not a huge issue for me – but I wanted to include an option for all of you curvy ladies: the Liberare Smooth-On T-Shirt bra.

This bra still has a fantastic front closure, and it’s completely wire-free – but you get lightly lined cups for extra support, and a little bit of a boost for the ladies too.

Designed for larger busts, this bra feels incredibly supportive – and it smooths everything out beneath your clothes. There’s even a handy optional clasp for converting your bra into a racerback style, which I think is great when I want to dress up for a night on the town.

One of my favorite things about this bra is how much coverage you get on the sides – the larger wings stop things from sagging and drifting (if you know what I mean).

The Best Low-Cost Option: Fruit of the Loom Front-Close Sports Bra

Once again, I personally wouldn’t recommend relying too much on “cheap” bras as you get older. Cutting down on cost often means compromising on other things, like durability, comfort, or lift.

Still, if you need a bra you can wear around the house when your others are in the wash, the Fruit of the Loom front-close sports bra is a good choice. You get a pack of three for less than $30 from Amazon – and they’re all made with soft, breathable cotton.

The trouble is, there’s not a lot of support – particularly for larger busts, and I often found myself “adjusting the ladies” throughout the day.

Plus, while this bra does have a front-closing clasp, there’s no magnets, so you still have to fiddle with awkward hooks. That alone stopped this from being my favorite comfort bra for seniors with arthritis or dexterity issues.

Get the Comfort Bra You Deserve

So there you have it – five excellent options for anyone in search of the best comfort bras for seniors. Overall, I have to say the Everyday Easy-on bra from Liberare is easily the top choice – closely followed by the Comfort Sculpt Seamless, and the Smooth-on T-Shirt bra.

All of these bras are soft, wireless, supportive – and come with an amazing front-clasp that will save your poor aching fingers. Plus, they don’t deliver comfort – they boost confidence – which is a big deal for me as a more mature women.

My last piece of advice? Your bra is something you wear every day – make sure you choose something that’s going to make you feel as amazing as you are!
