Question: When was the last time you looked through your underwear drawer?
If you're like me, you know that while aging comes with many gifts-more confidence and self knowledge, and wisdom, it can come with challenges too- especially when it comes to your wardrobe.
Sagging breasts, skin sensitivities, and a fuller figure might mean that it is time to swap out those lacy push up bras for something more elegant, supportive, and comfortable.

Understanding the Need for Comfortable Bras
We 50+ ladies often see changes in our breast shape, size, and firmness during this decade so finding a bra that offers support without discomfort is SO important.
With aging wear and tear, dressing starts to be a little more complicated. Add in age-related conditions such as arthritis, MS, Fibromyalgia or shoulder injuries and it's no wonder finding a good bra in your 50's can be such a hassle.
In this blog post, I will share my honest review of the most comfortable bras for older women that I have tried so far. If you’re tired of sagging and chafing, read on for some bras that will have you saying "brallelujah" in no time!
Features To Look For
Before diving into the most comfortable bras for older women, I wanted to walk you through key features you should consider when shopping on your own.
-
Support: Your band fit is important vut also consider wide straps that help lift and hold your breasts in place without causing discomfort. You don't want straps to dig in as this can lead to red marks, pain, even headaches!
-
Material: Look for soft, breathable fabrics made from cotton, modal, or bamboo blends.Overly-synthetic fabrics like Polyeser or stretch fabrics like Spandex, Lycra, and elastane can give great stretch but if they make up most of the fabric content, it will probably feel like you're wearing a swimsuit or shapewear.
-
Adjustability: Aging and other factors (such as medication) can effect our weight as older women so make sure you find a bra that will allow you to customize the fit according to your body’s changing shape.
-
Wire-Free Options: Personally and professionally I find my clients enjoy wirefree bras as they eliminate underwires that often pinch and dig into the skin.
-
Full Coverage: Full-coverage bras provide better support and prevent spillage, offering a more flattering silhouette.
-
Seamless Designs: Seamless bras are knit in a way that eliminates the need for them to be sewn like regular bras with seams. They're great for reducing chafing and irritation.
My Top Picks for Comfortable Bras for Older Women
1. The Everyday Easy On Bra (Front-Close, Wireless)
Liberare is a newer brand that I've fallen in love with. Thier Everyday Easy On is a total GAME CHANGER for women of all dressing needs but especially for older women who need a front-closing bra.
I was a bit wary at first about the unique front closure since it is magnetic, but am so glad I gave it a try. It really did hold up my DD cups! The magnet helped me guide the front together and the thing pretty much latched itself!
The bra has little dressing loops at the front since it's designed for those who might have weak hand strength, arthritis, or low dexterity, but you don't need to use them.
I also like that this bra is size inclusive. Cups go from B-G and bands start at 34-44. Support and lift for my 36DD chest was great due to breathable, stetchy microfiber and a 3-pc cup. My only complaint is that it is lined but not padded. Also, I found the sizing to run large, so check those measurements carefully and anticipate sizing down.
2. Playtex 18 Hour Original Comfort Strap Bra
I'm sure you have heard of this classic bra as it has been around for years, and for good reason! If you have a large chest like me and need a fair amound of support and lift, this has been the go-to option.
The Playtex 18 Hour Bra features wide, cushioned straps that feel amazing on my shoulders. There was absolutely zero digging in, although the wider straps do mean choosing the tops you pair this with more carefully to prevent them from peeking out.
The soft, breathable fabric helps keep you cool. I wore this for an entire day and felt clear and dry. Plus, the full-coverage cups held me in no matter what activity I was up to-from running errands to popping out back to do a bit of work in the garden. While this bra gives you a more natural shape, the lift is noticible.
My only warning for this bra is that because it trends towards support, it can feel restrictive if you wear for an extended period of time.
3. Bali Comfort Revolution Wire-Free Bra
If you’re looking for a bra that feels like a second skin, the Bali Comfort Bra is wonderful option. I loved the everyday chic seamless design with a soft, stretchy fabric that stretches 4-ways to adapt to your shape.
The wire-free construction and wide straps feel gentle on the body while giving you lift and shape. Some clients who are shorter have told me the straps are too loose on them however since these straps do not adjust.
3. The Liberare Bra Wirefree, Front Close Racerback
This bra is a fantastic option for older women who are looking to spice things up while maintaining comfort and ease. Since this bra is not offered in DD cups (This bra is only in cups A-C) I had one of my clients provide the review. She is 48 years old and has an injured rotator cuff, so she was eager to try this front-closing bra.
Like the Everyday Easy, it also features a magnetic clasp at the front-closure and assisitve loops for dressing. The Liberare Racerback bra is made from an incredibly soft microfiber that she reported felt gentle against the skin.
She also said she oved the slightly plunging neckline, lace racer for keeping the straps in place, and the lightly padded molded cups that shaped my sagging breasts. It was easy for her to take on and off and adjust the straps in the front all while avoiding any irritation to her rotator cuff injury.
5. Warner's No Side Effects Wire-Free Bra
Last, I wanted to include this great bra for those who need to manage some side splillage with the Warner's No Side Effects Wire-Free Bra. This innovative design features side-smoothing panels that eliminate bulges and create a sleek silhouette and helpd guide those east-west breasts slightly towards center.
The wire-free construction ensures maximum comfort, while the soft fabric feels great against the skin. This bra is ideal for everyday wear, whether you’re running errands or enjoying a relaxed day at home.
I also appreciated that the straps were adjustable from the front, which made fitting it even easier.
Tips for Finding Your Perfect Fit
Finding the most comfortable bra for older women is all about fit. Here are some tips to help you select the right size and style:
-
Measure Yourself: Get an accurate measurement of your band size and cup size. This will help you find the right fit.
-
Try Different Styles: Don’t hesitate to experiment with different styles, such as full coverage, bralettes, or wireless options. What works for one person may not work for another.
-
Adjust Straps: Once you’ve selected a bra, make sure to adjust the straps for optimal comfort. They should be snug but not digging into your shoulders.
-
Check the Band Fit: The band should be snug and level all the way around your body. If it rides up, you may need a smaller band size.
-
Look for Comfort Features: Pay attention to features like cushioned straps, seamless designs, and breathable fabrics, which can enhance comfort.
The Importance of Quality Over Quantity
As you transition into your golden years, investing in a few high-quality bras can make a significant difference in your comfort and confidence. Instead of having a drawer full of poorly fitting bras, choose a select few that offer exceptional support and feel great against your skin.
