My 3 Favorite Front-Closure Bras for Arthritis: Options that Really Make a Difference

When I was younger, I barely thought about my bra. I suppose most of us don’t until they become so difficult to get on and off. I’m 63 now, and I’ve had rheumatoid arthritis for quite some time.

At first, it was just occasional discomfort in my hands and knees. Now I have entire days when it feels like my entire body is actively fighting against me. If you’re reading this, I’m sure you know what that feels like.

I’ve adapted in a lot of ways, buying slip-on shoes, gadgets for opening jars, and compression gloves for winter. But finding the right bras for seniors with arthritis has been one of the toughest challenges.

Fortunately, I did finally find three options that really work, and I want to share them with you. Here are my three favorite bras for arthritis, and why they’re so incredible.

My 3 Favorite Bras for Arthritis: Rediscovering Comfort

Quick disclaimer, the three bras below aren’t the only options I’ve tried, tailored to people with arthritis. I’ve gone through a lot of trial and error in the last few years, and I did find some other options that worked to an extent.

But most other products forced me to compromise somewhere. I could have a wire-free bra, but no support, or something that was comfortable, but difficult to open and close.

I wanted to focus on these three bras in particular because they checked the most boxes overall.

The Liberare Comfort Sculpt Bra

This was the first bra I tried (after experimenting with dozens of comfort bras for older ladies) that really surprised me. What really caught my attention first was how soft and cozy it looked. It’s made with ultra-smooth seamless material, with absolutely no wires, but still plenty of coverage around the back and sides to hold everything in shape.

There are little removable cups you can add to the lining, which are great if you want to avoid anything “poking out” during the winter months. Plus, the straps are super wide, which is great for distributing weight evenly on days when my shoulders are aching.

The biggest selling point (and the thing I’ll mention about all of my favorite bras for arthritis on this list), though, is the front closure.

If you’ve got arthritis like me, you may already know how helpful a front closure is. It’s great for avoiding that awkward twisting and turning when you’re getting dressed and undressed.

But most of the time, you still have to deal with clips or compromise with buttons, Velcro, or snaps that don’t stay closed. Liberare’s Comfort Sculpt bra uses a clasp with finger loops and built-in magnets that help to guide everything into place.

I can even close and open it with just one hand. Honestly, this is one of the most comfortable and easy-to-wear bras I’ve ever owned. The only (slight) downside is that it doesn’t give you a lot of lift, but if you’re not too worried about that, this product is a real winner.

The Liberare Everyday Easy-On Bra

As much as I absolutely love the Comfort Sculpt bra from Liberare, it’s one of those options I think I turn to a lot more when I just need to relax. It’s the kind of bra you’ll wear to feel comfortable around the house, or in the garden, but it might not make you feel 100% secure when you’re out and about.

The Everyday Easy-On bra is a little more sculpted, but not to the point where you feel crushed or restricted. There are still no wires, but you do get a little more lift, and the overall design feels a little stronger- like you can trust it to hold you in place all day long, no matter what you’re doing.

You still get that fantastic, easy-to-close clasp on the front - a staple of any great comfort arthritis bra, with the magnetic elements and the finger loops.

Plus, this bra is a little more adjustable, too. There’s a four-inch perfect fit back adjuster, which is great on days when I feel like swelling is making my life a little more difficult.

Another thing I love about this bra is that it comes in a lot of different sizes. That meant I could easily buy a couple for my friends who suffer from similar problems during the holiday season. If you’re looking for something that just works, day after day, this could be it.

The Liberare Smooth-On T-Shirt Bra

Last, but definitely not least, the Liberare Smooth-On T-shirt bra was an option I wasn’t entirely sure about at first. It still gives you all the great things included in the last two bras I mentioned, like the magnetic front closure (with finger loops), and the super-soft fabric.

But it does look a little more structured, more like your traditional bra, with a large band section underneath a set of lightly-lined foam cups for more shape and coverage. This was a bra that I couldn’t really imagine wearing at night (while sleeping), but it does an amazing job elsewhere.

The extra structure helps to gently lift and shape the ladies without the need for wiring. There’s extra high coverage on the side (so nothing bulges out underneath your arms). Plus, it’s super smooth, so it looks fantastic under anything: dresses, shirts, whatever.

Another great thing is the optional hook, so you can convert the back into a racerback style (great when your shoulders are bothering you). You also get that handy four-inch back adjuster for a more customizable fit.

For me, this is definitely the best bra for seniors with arthritis if you have a slightly larger bust or a fuller figure. It’s my top option when I’m going out somewhere and I want to feel like I’m dressed to impress. Sometimes, though, I do switch to the Comfort Sculpt after a long day.

The Right Bra Really Changes Everything

I know it’s easy to look at these options and think “It’s just a bra, it doesn’t matter”. I used to think that too. But arthritis really does change so much about your life- including how you get dressed, and what you can comfortably wear.

A good bra won’t fix arthritis, but it will let you live with less pain and discomfort, without forcing you to compromise on confidence.

No bra is perfect for everyone, but these three are the closest I’ve come. I can get them on without help. They don’t dig or pull or squeeze. Plus, they don’t make me feel like I’ve given up, either.

If you’ve been struggling like I was, hopefully one (or all) of these bras will work for you. Don’t compromise on your comfort. You deserve a bra that supports you.
