Fruit of the Loom Front-Close Sports Bra

These bras seemed to get a lot of love online when I was reading reviews on bras for seniors with arthritis, and honestly, it was hard to see the risk in giving them a try. I mean, you get a pack of three for less than $30, with a front closure, no wires, and a variety of great color options.

However, there are several problems with these as well, at least for me. First, they’re sports bras, which means the level of support is basically non-existent. Next, though the front closure is handy if you want to avoid twisting and turning, it’s still fiddly. On days when my fingers flare up, it’s really hard to get those little hook-and-eye closures into place.

On the plus side, the material is pretty breathable (although not super soft, like what you’d get from something like the Liberare Comfort Sculpt). For me, these are “plan B” bras at best – something you might wear if everything else is in the wash, but that’s about it.

YIANNA Zip Front Bra

★★☆☆☆

I know what you’re thinking. Another sports bra. Surely that just has all the same problems as the Fruit of the Loom option right? Not entirely. This bra does offer more coverage and support, with large panels on the sides to help hold you in place.

The material is a little tight, but it’s not horrible to wear. You might find that it starts to feel a little restrictive over time, but that’s about it. Then there’s the zip front closure, which is definitely a lot easier to work with than a traditional clasp.

But you can’t rely on the zip alone. You still need to fasten a couple of little hooks if you don’t want the zipper to slip when you’re moving around. There’s also a huge Velcro strap in the back, which feels bulky, scratchy, and not ideal if you’re looking for comfort bras for older ladies.

I still like the idea of this bra, but I just couldn’t get around the overall issues. Again, this one spends more time in my drawer than it does on my body.

Silverts Adaptive Front Snap Bra

★★★☆☆

This was one of the first “comfort arthritis bras” I tried that seemed like it was actually meant for seniors. That’s a good thing and a bad thing. On the one hand, it does look a little clinical, like the sort of thing you’d be given by a nurse in a hospital.

On the other hand, Silverts have clearly prioritized comfort here. The bra is completely wireless, the material is soft and breathable, and the front closure is pretty decent. You just snap a set of buttons closed, rather than dealing with clips.

Probably the biggest downside is that the snaps aren’t exactly reliable. If you’ve got a larger bust (like yours truly), don’t count on them staying closed all day. I wore this once to answer the door and had to grab a throw pillow mid-bend to avoid an accidental flash.

Plus, there’s no real support, yet again, so if you’re worried about sagging at all, this probably isn’t the bra for you.

Harper Wilde Bliss Bra

★★★☆☆

After struggling to find any great front-opening bras for seniors for a while, I decided to experiment. What if I skipped the clasp entirely? That’s when I tried the Harper Wilde Bliss bra. I was pleasantly surprised by a few things.

The material is soft, stretchy, and reasonably breathable. You get a lot of coverage – and the durable microfiber construction does give you a little shape, though not much lift. 

The trouble is you have to pull it over your head, which is fine until your shoulders start really aching. If you’re looking for the best wireless bra for arthritis and you struggle with shoulder issues, this option really isn’t going to work. You might be able to get it on, but getting it off again is probably going to leave you swearing like a sailor.

I still wear this occasionally (on good days), but it’s not my go-to when my joints are angry.

Liberare Everyday Easy-On Bra

Now we’re really breaking out the big guns! This is the first bra that actually started to change things for me. It convinced me that wireless bras could be really incredible.
