In case you forgot, Mother’s Day is just around the corner- and that means many of us have already started the dreaded hunt for the best gifts for elderly women.
Trust me when I say I know how tough finding the right gift can be. When I’m buying something for my mom – whether it’s for Mother’s Day, her birthday, or just for fun, I don’t want to bombard her with the same old candles and socks she’ll never use.
That’s why I wanted to share this simple list with you – introducing some of the best gifts for older women that I’ve found over the years – the ones my mom really loves.
The Best Gifts for Elderly Women: My Advice
Before I dive into my suggestions, I wanted to share some quick tips for any of you daughters, sons, or grandkids out there that just don’t know where to start.
My best advice? Practical gifts are always best. Sure, your mom might like her scented candles and slipper collection – but she’s really going to adore any gift that makes her life easier.
So, find out what’s challenging for your mom first. If she has arthritic hands, get her an electric jar opener or a front-closing bra. If she struggles with the housework – find something to help.
Our moms don’t often like telling us that they’re struggling. If you can pick up on the subtle cues and get her something that actually solves a problem – that’s really going to make a difference.
The Best Gifts for Elderly Women: Picks my Mom Loves
I don’t want to overwhelm you with too many choices here (or rehash all the common suggestions like blankets and shawls) – so I’m going to focus on the real superstars – the gifts my mom uses every day (or close to it).
1. The Liberare Everyday Easy-On Bra
I know what you’re thinking: “Isn’t a bra a weird thing to get your mom?”
Nope – it’s practical, useful, and life-changing – if you find the best bras for older women. My mom has rheumatoid arthritis, and a lot of shoulder pain – so finding the right bra has been a nightmare for her in the past. Fortunately, I found the Liberare Everyday Easy-On Bra last Mother’s Day – and it’s by far one of the best gifts I’ve ever given.
What makes this bra really special (aside from it’s super-soft breathable material), is the magnetic front-facing clasp. The magnets just guide the clips at the front together, and they instantly lock in place -no pinching or tugging necessary.
Not only is it incredibly easy to wear – but it’s comfort level is unmatched, with no hard edges or wires digging into your skin. My mom says this is the best bra she’s ever worn, and she’s even asked me to grab her a couple of Liberare’s other products, like the Comfort Sculpt bra since.
I bought myself the Convertible Plunge Bralette last week too.
2. Joe & Bella Everyday Magnetic Blouse
Sticking with the theme of garment-based gifts for elderly women (that are actually easy to wear) – let me introduce my mom’s new favorite shirt. Joe & Bella are one of my favorite adaptive clothing companies – and they offer plenty of great gifts for people with arthritis, or older ladies.
The Everyday Magnetic blouse is a silky-smooth, ultra-feminine blouse with tons of gorgeous details. It looks and feels premium – and the material is divine.
The great thing about this shirt is that the buttons are magnetic. That makes it so much easier for my mom to get dressed for a night on the town when she’s having a bad pain day. Even the armholes are tailored to make it easier to get on and off if you have shoulder issues.
I got my mom this blouse in the “pink floral” style – as she’s a bit of a girly girl, but there are plenty of designs to suit everyone.
3. Higher Torque Electric Jar Opener
Comfort bras for older ladies and adaptive clothing aren’t the only way you can make your mom’s life easier. If, like mine, your mom struggles with fingers that just don’t do what they’re told – get her an electric jar opener. It might seem like a small gift – but my mom uses hers every day.
She’s a huge fan of jarred beetroot, and jellies, so this is a fantastic gift. All she needs to do is place the device over the lid, press a button – and she’s done.
The look on her face when she first used this little gadget was incredible. Although she did complain that now she doesn’t have an “excuse” to call me whenever she’s struggling in the kitchen. Alongside the two top options above, this is one of my most-recommended gifts for people with arthritis.
4. Frameo Digital Photo Frame
A little while ago I got myself an Amazon Show Echo – and my mom instantly said how much she loves watching my slideshow of photos go by when she comes over for a cup of tea.
I offered to get her the same device, but she said she’d have no idea how to use it, and that she didn’t really like how “clunky” it looked. Fortunately, I found a great alternative – the Frameo. This is a much more affordable, and simpler digital photo display that looks a lot like a basic photo frame.
It comes with a huge 32GB of storage – enough for 50,000 photos. I have to say, it took me a little while to convert all of her photo albums into digital format, and add a few snaps of my own using the mobile app – but it was worth it. My mom even asked me to grab one for her sister (my aunt).
5. The Lefant Robot Vacuum
If you’re looking for slightly pricier gifts for elderly women – a Lefant robot vacuum could be a great shout. I actually got this for my mom at Christmas, because that’s when we tend to exchange “bigger” presents – but it’d be a great mother’s day gift too.
The only downside is that it’s controlled by Alexa, so I needed to bundle this present with a smart speaker, and then teach my mom how to use it.
If your mom’s house-proud but she struggles with moving a heavy vacuum around – this will really change her life (and save her a lot of stress). If you really want to splash out, there are some options out there that can mop floors as well as vacuuming too.
6. Zakasa Non-Slip Socks
Need budget-friendly gifts for older women that still make a difference? Try some non-slip socks. I really like multi-colored Zasaka grip socks – because they’re made with premium cotton and are fantastic for giving my mom a little extra stability.
She doesn’t really love wearing slippers – and often forgets to put them on when she’s going to the bathroom in the middle of the night (like most of us). With these socks, she doesn’t have to worry about a sudden slip and a trip to the emergency room.
If you want to really treat your mom, I’d recommend even combining these socks with a few extras in a personalized hamper. You could grab a comfort bra, a nice robe, and the socks, and package them in a basket with a few sweet treats.
7. EziLife Automatic Pill Dispenser
This is another simple option – but a great pick if you’re looking for practical gifts for elderly women. My mom struggles a lot with her medication. It’s not just fiddling with opening the little compartments on her standard pill dispenser that causes problems – it’s remembering when she actually needs to take each pill.
I did try setting up an alarm on her phone to help her – but the EziLife automatic pill dispenser turned out to be a much better option. All you need to do is program your medication schedule (I did this for my mom) – you can even set different doses for up to 28 days.
Once the timer on the dispenser hits a “dose time” it dispenses the medication automatically. Plus, it lights up and issues a little alarm too.
The Absolute Best Gifts for Elderly Women
So there you have it, all of my favorite gifts for elderly women – approved and tested by the most discerning reviewer I know – my mom.
Whether you’re looking to make mom’s life easier with an easy-on bra, or you just want to brighten up her days with a digital photo frame – remember practical, useful gifts are always best. My mom couldn’t live with out all of the options on this list today (especially the Liberare bra) – and she always say I give the best gifts.
If you want the same praise – I recommend checking this list out this Mother’s Day (make sure you come back to it for more guidance later in the year too!)
